The Colonel turns 70
To fans of a certain type of jam-heavy, surrealist rock, Col. Bruce Hampton is a living legend. He emerged in the late sixties and early seventies playing a Captain Beefheart-esque blend of prog, jazz, folk and basically everything else including the kitchen sink. Over the subsequent decades he's kept up an extraordinary output of music both as a solo artists and as a bandmember. He's also made the odd movie movie appearance and has even guested on a Run the Jewels song. In honor of his 70th birthday, a host of stars, including the likes of Warren Hayes, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Oscar- winner Billy Bob Thornton, come together for this concert.
Among the acts on the bill are Widespread Panic's John Bell, Dave Schools, Duane Trucks and Jimmy Herring, Peter Buck of R.E.M, Darick Campbell, Phish's Jon Fishman, Warren Haynes, Johnny Knapp, Chuck Leavell of The Allman Brothers Band, John Popper, Kevin Scott, Matt Slocum, Denny Walley, Oliver Wood, and Billy Bob Thornton
