Come From Away Comes To Movie Theaters

The hit Broadway show to be filmed for potential September movie theater release!

Come From Away is the next hit Broadway musical to receive the movie treatment. The musical, which debuted on Broadway in 2017, will be filmed this May before a potential September release in movie theaters.

2021 marks the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the event that Come From Away is based around. The musical, which Irene Sankoff and David Hein created, tells the true story of a small town in Newfoundland, Canada, that welcomed over 6,000 people who were left stranded after the closure of the United States' Airspace in the wake of the dreadful attacks.

The musical is scheduled to be filmed in May at Come From Away's Broadway home, the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. Around 222 people are expected to participate in the making of the film. However, the exact cast is yet to be announced.

The musical's director, Christopher Ashley, will return to direct the filmed production with Alchemy Production Group to provide the stage production and RadicalMedia (who filmed Hamilton) will film the production.

Come From on Tour

WHAT IS COME FROM AWAY ABOUT?

On September 11th 2001, as the terror attacks' full horror became apparent, the US closed its airspace, grounding thousands of passenger jets. 38 of them were forced to land in Gander, a remote Newfoundland town with a population of just 9000 people.

Come From Away focuses on a set of passengers from the planes and the Gander residents who welcomed them into their homes. Amongst this diverse set of characters is American Airlines' first female pilot, a gay couple both called Kevin, and an Egyptian chef, whose initial apprehensions about the reception he will receive prove unfounded. Weaving together all of their storylines, the show creates an affirming portrait of human connection in the most trying of circumstances.
