A World Premiere Of Alliance/Kendeda Prize Winner 'Goodnight, Tyler'
Northwestern University Screen and Stage Writing student B.J. Tindal secured an exciting future in the dramatic arts when his searing examination of the Black Lives matter movement won the 2018 Alliance/Kendeda Prize. The Graduate Playwriting Competition is a one-of-a-kind accolade that spotlights budding talent and helps student playwrights transition into the world of professional theatre. 'Goodnight, Tyler' makes its stunning world premiere at Alliance's Hertz Stage as part of the Atlanta company's latest 2018/19 season program.
The heavy-hitting drama takes place after a young African-American named Tyler Evans is shot and killed by a police officer. Amidst the media noise, a tug-of-war emerges between Tyler's image as a human being with friends, a fiance and family and his portrayal as merely a victim of police brutality in America, a statistic with no other story. Desperate to influence these narratives, Tyler's ghost haunts his best friend whilst those he left behind try to pick up the pieces and decide what's best for his legacy.
