Tchaikovsky's masterful Sleeping Beauty stands to this day as a ballet masterpiece, inspiring the famed Disney movie and continually capturing the hearts of generations, well over 130 years since its debut. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform the score in all of its glory this March, showcasing the composer's evocative character themes, memorable waltzes and brilliantly rich orchestrations!
Debuted in 1890 in collaboration with choreographer Marius Petipa, the ballet was based on Charles Perrault's adaptation of the ancient folk tale, published in 1697. The score beautifully captures the magical and romantic essence of the fairy tale, with notable moments such as the renowned Rose Adagio and the celebratory grand waltz. It's a cherished gem in the classical ballet repertoire and one best experienced in full with a live orchestra!
