The Atlanta Ballet continues into the new year with their trademark pioneering spirit, presenting two new Atlanta Ballet debuts and a world premiere during the return of the annual Heart/Beat program. Woven together by the fizzing, syncopated energy of jazz music, the three works begin with the hotly anticipated world premiere by former Alvin Ailey principal dancer and rising choreographic talent Dwight Rhoden.
This is followed by versatile dance visionary Lar Lubovitch's Elemental Brubeck, an uplifting, jazzed-up ballet that harnesses the freedom of form to stunning effect. The program comes to a close with Tuplet, an explosive, pulsating 18-minute tour de force for six dancers, devised by Swedish dancer and choreographer Karl Wilhelm Alexander Ekman.
