The magic of time-honored fairytale Cinderella collides with the high art form of opera in Rossini's great mid-18th century dramma giocoso La Cenerentola. Brought lovingly to the stage by the world class Atlanta Opera, the comedy and drama-infused spectacular stars American mezzo-soprano Emily Fons in the titular role of Angelina AKA Cinderella and Argentinian tenor Santiago Ballerini as her charming prince Ramiro.
Filled with humour and good natured fun, this Cinderella story is very much Rossini's take on the beloved story. The kind natured Angelina/Cinderella must still contend with two ridiculous step-sisters, but here has to wait hand and foot on her wicked step-father Don Magnifico to boot! Not content to stay stuck as a damsel in distress, she takes matters into her own hands to fend off her mean family members and pursue the prince on her own terms. Brava!
