Strange Plot, but Well-Performed
The plot of the 2004 film Millions is strange to begin with; I don’t know what prompted anyone to turn it into a musical. Its central plot device— a duffel bag full of currency that’s about to become obsolete— precipitates a series of events too contrived to feel realistic. Nevertheless, the cast of the show was phenomenal, especially the young Keenan Barrett, carrying the emotional weight of the show with a presence that isn’t often found even in fully grown actors, let alone child actors! The songs were forgettable, but not unpleasant. All in all, the talented cast is worth seeing. Just don’t expect something on the level of South Pacific or The Sound of Music. Adam Guettel can’t quite fill his grandfather’s shoes.
