Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous

Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous at Alliance Theatre

Why see Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous?

Past and Present Collides In Pearl Cleage's Latest Work

Atlanta's world renowned company Alliance Theatre continues its groundbreaking 2018/19 season with the world premiere of African American playwright Pearl Cleage's 'Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous'. The brand new work from the celebrated feminist writer boldly explores the current political landscape and women's ever evolving place within it, posing questions about how far we've come and at what cost.

The bonds of friendship are tested when two former activists, most prolific during the Second Wave of feminism during the 1970s, find the world a very different place to the one they shaped decades ago. In an attempt to find a reliable candidate they can both back in an upcoming congressional race, the pair come face to face with a culture of women tearing other women down. Yet perhaps the duo can bring age old wisdom to the fore, reigniting the sisterhood of their past.

A great evening watching a talented cast work their magic

Went to see this tonight with a friend -- both of us middle-aged women -- and really enjoyed it. Not a thing was wrong -- I'm just one who needs to be blown away to give 5 stars. ;) This came close. When that was announced on the way in, I instantly regretted not stopping by the ladies room and was worried about having to potentially make the entire row stand up to let me out later, but 90 minutes FLEW -- felt like about 45 had passed when the show came to a close. Our seats were comfortable and wonderful (7 rows back in the center), and I love the theater renovation. The cast was EXCELLENT. I usually require music to be entertained and was a little skeptical that a play (and no changes of scenery) would keep me spellbound, but they did. GORGEOUS set, too! ... Read more
