Grammy Winner Gloria Estefan Co-Writes Music And Lyrics For Brand New Musical At Alliance Theater

Grammy Award winning artist Gloria Estefan teams up with her daughter Emily on music and lyrics for this astounding new musical, having its world premiere at Atlanta's Alliance Theater next Summer! Based on the incredible true story of Paraguay's Recycled Orchestra, Basura will be directed by Michael Greif (Rent) and promises to be an emotional ode to the power of music.

What Is The Story?

In a small community in Paraguay, a music teacher faces a tall order: how to start an orchestra without any instruments. Using discarded paint cans, forks and oil drums, a makeshift collection of instruments is forged - and something incredible is born. Basura is based on the documentary Landfill Harmonic, and tells an inspiring and emotional story of how music can and should be for everyone.
