Brahms' Comforting Requiem

Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra through Brahms' dignified masterpiece, "A German Requiem". Soloists from the Atlanta Symphony Chorus star in this much admired piece, which uses passages from the Lutheran Bible in German, as opposed to the usual Latin passages from the Catholic Bible found in other requiems. Opening the program is Strauss' Duet Concertino, featuring principle clarinettist and bassoonist Jesse McCandless and Cameron Bonner respectively.

ASO Speciality

Brahms' Requiem is a piece slightly different to other requiems; rather than being a mass from the dead as would usually be expected, this one is intended as a soothe for those who remain after the passing of a loved one. ASO is certainly a specialist in this piece, having performed it at Carnegie Hall on two occasions, while the Berlin Philharmonic also invited the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus to perform it with them in Germany.
