Why see Atlanta Symphony Orchestra - Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2?
An Evening of Rachmaninov
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will be performing the masterpiece Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2. The piece will be conducted by the award-winning David Danzmayr and will be accompanied by award-winning master pianist Michelle Cann. During the program Danzmayr will also lead the orchestra in Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No.7.
Rachmaninov composed the Piano Concerto No. 2 between 1900 and 1901, and was the first piece that he created after the devastating premiere of his First Symphony in 1897 which caused him to suffer a creative block. The piece was first performed by the Moscow Philarmonic Society in November 1901 and quickly became one of his most popular compositions.
