Why See King Hedley II?

Plays

By August Wilson

A sobering look at the African American experience in America, King Hedley II is the ninth play in August Wilson's 10-play Pittsburgh Cycle. One of the playwright's darkest works, the story follows an ex-con in Reagan-era Pittsburgh trying to put his life back together. His dream is top open his own video store and he goes about raising money through selling frozen refrigerators.

King Hedley II originally opened on Broadway in 1999 with Viola Davis amongst the cast, and was nominated for six Tony Awards (winning one) and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
