Atlanta Ballet - The Nutcracker

Why see Atlanta Ballet - The Nutcracker?

A Classic Christmas Treat

This wonderful production returns to delight families, taking place at the grand Cobb Performing Arts Centre. Scored by the iconic music of Tchaikovsky, this show is a wondrous adventure that has thrilled audiences the world over for over one hundred years. The story follows young Marya as she's led through magical lands my her Nutcracker doll, which has sprung magically to life.

What Is The Nutcracker About?

We open on Christmas Eve, in the Stahlbaum house. There's music and presents and food, and the three Stahlbaum children are beside themselves with joy at the wonder of it all. There's even more excitement on the horizon though, heralded by the arrival at the door of local magician Drosselmeyer. He brings bearing gifts for the children, including a wooden nutcracker.

The Nutcracker is far from an ordinary present, and when one of the children, Marya, sneaks down in the middle of the night to check on her new favorite toy, she's amazed to see it has come to life. The Nutcracker whisks Marya away on an adventure that will lead her into a war between mice and gingerbread men and through the Land of Sweets, ruled over by the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Loved It

Absolutely loved the show. The sets were breathtaking, just mind blowing. I was seriously stunned. The use of cyc visuals over the dancers during certain scenes was heckin dazzling and used sparingly enough that it had the same effect each time. I enjoyed every single dancer. I had my eyes on everyone at different times, and these folks are TALENTED. Totally graceful even when it's obvious they're using total body effort. Timing was perfect. Great work all around, no complaints, no notes, just fond, fond memories of human excellence. Also, Drosselmeier was FINE. Swish that cape, sir! ... Read more
