WHAT HAPPENED???

Where was Diana Krall? Have loved her CDs for years. In Greenville last night she was over 15 mins late coming out, she was the only performer on stage the ENTIRE program, no musicians, no backup. She could not remember the words to songs at all, she kept chat going with audience asking people to suggest songs and then would head off in her own again with chords and either no vocals or simply forget what she was singing. The “show” ran about ONE HOUR AND TEN MINUTES and was nothing but wandering improv. She is certainly talented with wandering improv on the keyboard but where was the rest of her? People started leaving 30ish minutes into the program. From there, more and more people left to the point of fleeing. Something really wrong. We miss you, Diana!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

My husband and I attended Diana Krall's performance at the Hersey Theater last night, and to be honest, it was quite disappointing. The show lacked excitement and felt rather dull. She sat at the piano and performed a few songs without a band, which left much to be desired. She arrived late and seemed to make numerous mistakes throughout the performance, giving it the atmosphere of a recital rather than a captivating concert experience. While she is extremely talented, the high-ticket price was simply NOT worth it! I will continue to enjoy her music on SPOTIFY.

DISAPPOINTING

Her recorded music is great. During the evening I kept asking myself, “how can someone who has done the work she has done sit there, narrating her constant mistakes while she was singing, singing without passion, doing the same or a similar improvisation on the piano for each song.” She was also, just for the record, incoherent. I couldn’t understand a word she said and I couldn’t believe how far I drove to get there.

SHOCKINGLY BAD

The worst concert I’ve ever been to by far. She should not be touring. She was completely unprepared. I’ve been a fan for years and I wish I would have read the reviews before I spent so much money on tickets. The reviews are 100% accurate.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH DIANA KRALL?

My partner and I love Diana Krall's music and were very psyched to see her perform in Richmond, VA on 3/23/24. I've enjoyed her shows in the past and had positive expectations. What a concerning disappointment this was. From the first song, she kept her head down, face obscured by hair, no connection with the audience. She had sheets scattered on the piano, didn't know what song to perform, and mumbled the lyrics (when she could remember them). Jazz standards that should have had playfulness, warmth or sass were flat and devoid of emotion. Her usual keyboard mastery was occassionally evident, but also marred by dark riffs that seemed inconsistent with the vibe of the lyrics; she even seemed to miss the keys a few times. She seemed lost. Here's hoping this talented artist can find her way back.
